beautiful onscreen couples

This post is inspired by the Jo In-sung and Song Hye-kyo pairing in THAT WINTER THE WIND BLOWS. It’s going to be subjective because as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

There are just some pairings that catch the public’s attention, sell fantasies and marquees. Individual beauty of course counts but when talking about onscreen pairings, they have to look good together and have chemistry.

Here are my picks:

jis shk2

Jo In-sung and Song Hye-kyo (THAT WINTER THE WIND BLOWS) – he’s a model, she’s a doll. Together, they light up the screen with an incandescent glow. Their chemistry is building as the story in the drama progresses. Was there any doubt that they could make the winter warm?

taku yuko

Kimura Takuya and Takeuchi Yuko (PRIDE) – Perhaps my all-time favorite pairing in a drama that still sets the standard on what a romance-drama should be. He’s Japan’s ageless heartthrob and she’s the national sweetheart (Arashi’s Nino is just one of those who has expressed admiration for her publicly that’s why I think her husband was a cad for cheating on her).

mark janine

Mark Chao and Janine Chang (BLACK & WHITE) – They’re like hot and cold, fire and ice. He’s smoldering, she’s elegant. Janine also looks good with Mike He and Peter Ho. I even wished Mark and Janine were dating in real life. They have that certain yin-yang.

osamu keiko

Osamu Mukai and Kitagawa Keiko (PERFECT KISS) – He always plays the passive male lead while she’s the quirky one. The film may have been a miss and they don’t have that much onscreen chemistry compared to other pairings, but at least they were pretty to look at.

This one is extra:

Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy (A SENTIMENTAL STORY) – I don’t even know if their movie has been released already but they sure have been hitting the headlines since it was revealed that they were dating a couple of years back. Might as well be one of Hong Kong/China’s glamorous couples but what’s interesting is that both of them are rumored to have gone through cosmetic surgery.

With stars going to a cosmetic surgery clinic to undergo “enhancements” as if they were just going to the mall, should it still be a big deal on which celebrity had their faces and bodies redone? If it’s true indeed (those photos can speak for themselves), then they must give their doctors a lifetime bonus because the work done on them made them come out looking screen-perfect. But while Angelababy is pretty, she looks just like any other star and that makes her face forgettable. I also wonder if this couple has seen HELTER SKELTER and if they were scared by it. They’re not called the plastic Ken and Barbie of the Chinese entertainment world for nothing.
