Two months ago, I started tweeting #loveletterstomyUncle, addressed to the grand old man of Johnny’s Entertainment. I was bored and wanted to entertain myself out of my impatience waiting for the announcement on Arashi’s DVD releases and concert tour dates. I actually had a lot of fun writing these letters and for posterity’s sake, I am putting them together in one post.

It’s actually like writing a letter to Santa and then you find out that Santa does not exist. Of course, we know Johnny Kitagawa exists though at the age of 82, he’s become scarce in public. There is this article on JE that, among others, mentions the sex abuse allegations and that infamous performance of Arashi on FNS, for some context on how powerful Uncle Johnny is in the Japanese entertainment industry.

Back in 2005 when I went to Tokyo at the height of HANA YORI DANGO’s popularity, I asked my Japanese friend if she knows Arashi. She didn’t have a clue on who they were but when I told her they’re under Johnny’s Entertainment, she gave me a look that was a cross between amusement and disgust.  It was only later I understood why. She probably thought I was stanning prepubescent boys. LOL.

Of course I was not under any illusion that my Uncle saw the tweets, I doubt if he’s on social media but it also felt like throwing those wishful thinking to the universe and letting it handle them. What did Paulo Coelho say?

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

So see… Jun aka Arashi’s production bochan was not bluffing when he said there will be an ARAFES DVD. ARAFES’13 will be finally released on May 21 not just as DVD but Bluray, not to mention the GUTS and 誰も知らない singles out this month and next month. Just waiting for LOVE DVD/Bluray now and everyone’s much anticipated 5×15 tour dates. The Arashi matsuri has begun!!!
